BEWARE – Scammers Claiming to be with Medicare Are Asking for New Medicare Card Numbers

A number of local residents have recently been contacted by someone calling claiming to be with Medicare – and they’re asking people for the numbers on their NEW cards which were issued this year.  Area residents have reported that the scammers are claiming to want that number on your new Medicare Card, so they can allegedly “activate” it.

Well, there’s no need for that since your new card doesn’t have to be “activated”.

It was ready to use the day you received it.

Your card number is private.  DO NOT give it to anyone over the phone.  These calls are just another way con artists try to steal from you.  Just hang up the phone.

These scams are targeted primarily at older adults; it’s important that you inform everyone you know about these calls and take steps to protect loved ones against the vicious attempt to steal from those who may not be aware of how a con like this works.

Spread the word.
