One Killed, One Injured as Pickup Truck Slams into Log Truck Tuesday Afternoon on Highway 9

One person was killed and another rushed for treatment, following a three-vehicle accident on Alabama Highway 9 near the Highway 35 intersection in Cedar Bluff Tuesday afternoon.  According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report, at 5:45pm a 2012 GMC pickup driven by 78 year old Gordon Kilgore of Silver Creek, Georgia, slammed into the rear of a fully loaded log truck. 

According to Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton, the driver’s wife, Helen Kilgore, was pronounced dead at the scene as the result of blunt force trauma.

Dr. Deaton stated that she was wearing her seat belt at the time.

Gordon Kilgore was transported to Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome.  The driver of the 1996 Freightliner, Rodger Edgeworth, age 48 of Gadsden was unhurt.  The driver of a third vehicle involved in the wreck (a 2013 GMC) – 39 year old Patricia Scott of Cartersville, Georgia – also escaped injury.

Traffic was re-routed for an extended period of time as the Coroner’s Office conducted their investigation and afterwards, vehicles were removed from the roadway.

The Cedar Bluff and Gaylesville Fire Departments, Alabama State Troopers, County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Floyd EMS and Rescue Squad personnel also responded to the scene.
