Man Found with Large Amount of Meth in Vehicle

A Prattville man was arrested on drug charges after being pulled over near the north end of Airport Road by an alert Ft Payne Police Officer.

According to information in a news release by Police Chief Randy Bynum, 40 year old James Albert Rainwater was exhibiting some very “nervous” and “irate” behavior while the officer was trying to get his driver’s license and insurance information.

According to the officer’s report, due to the behavior exhibited by Rainwater and the fact he had already admitted to having a gun in the vehicle, Rainwater was asked to exit the vehicle – at which point he became more agitated and aggressive.  It was also around that time that the officer noticed a clear plastic bag sticking out of the man’s pocket.  That bag contained a clear, crystal like substance which later tested positive for methamphetamine.

That vehicle was searched – and a large amount of methamphetamine was found in various places inside.  Rainwater also had three handguns, which were loaded, and had extra ammo inside the vehicle with him.

He was placed under arrest, and charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Chief Bynum said the investigation continues and charges may be upgraded at a later date.
