November Opening Reception at the Gadsden Museum of Art

The Gadsden Museum of Art will be hosting an opening reception on Friday, November 2nd.

For this exhibit we will be celebrating veterans from WWI with The Great War: 100 Years Since The End Of WWI, along with hand painted flags from countries involved in WWI by students from Gadsden Middle School, Etowah Middle School, Pathways Academy and a mural of poppies by Westbrook Christian School. We will be featuring the works of Brad Norris and Ray Wetzel in the Leo Reynolds Gallery.  In the student gallery, the students from Montevallo University will be featuring paintings, sculptures and mixed media. The volunteer curated Christmas show will be on the second floor.

The Great War: 100 Years Since The End Of WWI will feature historical pieces from The Berman Museum of Natural History. John McFarland will be giving lectures throughout the month of November on WWI history. The lectures will take place on the first floor main gallery on Wednesdays November 7th, 14th, and 28th at 1:30 pm.

Jill Edwards worked with 170 students of from Gadsden Middle School 6th grade history class, Etowah Middle School 7th grade Civics class, and Pathways Academy homeschooled research and hand paint flags from all the countries involved with WWI. Westbrook Christian School will display their mural of poppy flowers, inspired by In Flanders Field, to honor and remember our veterans.

The somewhat autobiographical creative works of Brad Norris and Ray Wetzel, Of Ghosts, will be featured in the Leo Reynold’s Gallery. These works include Painting and mixed media. This show will run from November 2nd until January 10th.

The GMA volunteers have curated the annual holiday show which will be displayed on the second floor.
