An investigation is underway after a deceased body was found in a cotton field at a location on County Road 7 in Cherokee County near the Etowah County line.

According to Cherokee County Chief Investigator Josh Summerford a farmer made the discovery on Friday afternoon. Summerford said that no additional information is being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the JSU Center for Applied Forensics is conducting the investigation.
