FEMA Successfully Tests The Presidential Alert System

There’s a good chance that on Wednesday afternoon at around 1:18 p.m. your phone sounded an alarm and you received a message that said “Presidential Alert.”

This message was also sent out VIA television and radio – the alert went on WEIS Radio around 1:20 p.m.

This was a joint test by FEMA and the FCC of the existing emergency alert system (EAS) and wireless emergency alerts (WEA). These messages warn you about severe weather, such as flooding, or Tornadoes in your area. Or you might have received a WEA AMBER alert if a child is missing.

Wednesday’s message simply read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”

It didn’t come from President Donald Trump, but in the future it might if there’s a national emergency.
