Board Of Education Accepts Bid For New Centre Elementary School

During Tuesday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Education the board accepted the lowest bid for the construction of the new Centre Elementary School, that bid was awarded to First Team Construction. The contract must now be approved by the state. Jay Grubbs with Ray-Lin Construction stated that moving forward they were looking at a 30 day turnaround with construction beginning around November 1. during this process Grubbs said that the board can schedule a ground breaking ceremony.

The board also approved two memorandums of understandings with DeKalb/Cherokee Gas for the moving of a gas line at Centre Elementary School. The board will agree to repay DC Gas for half the cost upon completion of the project. The second agreement was with Centre Water Works and Sewer Board for moving a sewage line at Centre Elementary School, the board will pay for the initial cost up front and the Water Works Board will repay them over a four year period with the first payment coming upon completion. These agreements will be approved once the boards attorney has looked them over and returned them with the legal description.

In other business the board also accepted an agreement with the Cherokee County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments Radio Communications Committee for a communications system and also approved the purchase of nine 2019 type “c” 72 passenger buses from Transportation South.

Sarah Battles was approved as the Superintendent’s 2018/2019 Sick Leave Committee representative. The board also approved a revision to the Anti-Harassment Policy. 

Approved Personnel items included: Resignation, Rodney Slayton, Vocational Bus Driver. Contract Employment, Beth Carter, Extended Leave Temporary Bus Driver and Sand Rock School, Teresa Harrison, Title Tutor Contract. Contract Change, Connie Crow from 7 hour CNP worker to 7.5 hour CNP worker at Cedar Bluff School.

2018/2018 Supplements approved were: Lynn Baswell, Janice Elrod, Danny Harrell and Neal Wester.
