Patrons to Cherokee Rock Village Park on Saturday were able to enjoy the newly completed Observation Deck adjacent to the picnic area overlooking the Leesburg area.
The large 30×40 deck was constructed through grants and donations and some Park Board Capital Improvement Funds. The Tillotson-Menlo Charitable Foundation provided a grant in the amount of $10,000, The Cherokee County Civitan Club provided a grant of $2,500, and the Weiss Lake Improvement Association provided a grant of $1,500 with some private donations for the project coming in as well.
Board members said this project couldn’t have been done this year without the grants and donations and they extended a grateful “Thank you” to all those who helped to transform it from a dream to reality. The Observation Deck will provide a place where everyone can enjoy spectacular views without the risks of climbing out onto rocks. It’s ADA Compliant so those with limited mobility will be able to access it and enjoy the views they have not been able to enjoy until now.
