An Etowah County Sheriff’s deputy was injured in a single-vehicle accident Saturday morning.

The accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on County Road 71, near the intersection of Gilley Road. The deputy was pursuing a vehicle who fled from deputies, according to Etowah County PIO Natalie Barton.
Authorities report the deputy was transported by helicopter to a Birmingham hospital with serious injuries, but it does not appear to be life-threatening.
