E9-1-1 Board to Open Bids for Ambulance Service

Earlier this month, the Cherokee Emergency Medical Services Inc. of Centre announced they would no longer provide Ambulance/EMS Services for residents of Cherokee County effective at midnight on September 30th. That announcement put the E-9-1-1 Board on notice they would have take action to solicit bids for EMS/Ambulance Services for the County with the exception of the southern portion of the county which is serviced by the Piedmont Rescue Squad and Ambulance Service.

The closing date for the bids was Monday, September 17th at 9:00 a.m. The bid will be awarded at Thursday’s meeting of the E 9-1-1 Board at noon in the County Commission Chambers in the Admin Building.

WEIS News has learned two bids have been turned in. After the successful bidder is announced, the Company awarded the bid will only have 10 days to get everything in place to begin operating at 12:01 a.m. on October 1st. This will include, at minimum, readying an adequate number of ambulances with proper radios to communicate with Central Dispatch and having a sufficient number of employees in place to provide services.

The E 9-1-1 Board Meeting is open to the public.
