Scammers Calling Claiming to be Victim of Parking Lot “Hit and Run”

Scams are nothing new.  We’ve reported on them time and time again and it’s almost gotten to the point that if you haven’t received a call from one of these con artists you’re one of the very few able to say you haven’t.

Most of these are basically the same, but we received a call recently reporting a scam with a slightly different (sorta’ dumb) twist.  In this one, the caller told us she received a call from a man stating that she hit his car in the Centre Walmart parking lot, and she left a note on the car promising to pay for the repairs – and he said that’s how he got her name and number.

Okay, let’s stop and think for a minute.  #1 – I’m gonna know if I hit someone’s car in the lot at Walmart.  #2 – I’m gonna know if I left a note.  #3 – I also know that I can go to Walmart and have surveillance footage pulled from the security cameras for a court case proving my point, if necessary.

So you’re not a very good scammer are you?

The caller told us the person on the phone knew her phone number and her name, and they also “spoofed” the number they using – making it appear as though they were calling from a reputable local business.  This was the case each time we received a report.   Okay this does prove they’re very advanced when it comes to technology – other than that – not so much.

The only angle we can figure, is the target is someone who may think that they accidentally “tapped” a vehicle in the parking lot without knowing it.  That bit about the note – we really have no idea.  Doesn’t matter.  It’s a scam just the same.  Hang up.  End of conversation.
