Rome Woman Charged with Six Counts of First Degree Arson

Rome Police have now released reports regarding a case of arson occurring late last week.

A 45 year old Rome woman was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Friday, charged with six counts of Arson 1st Degree in connection with a fire which had been set in an apartment on High Street off of Dean Avenue Thursday evening.  That fire displaced six people, with Dean Avenue being shut down between East 12th Street and East 19th Street, as firefighters battled the blaze.  Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries.

This isn’t Norma Jean Thornton’s first run-in with the law.

She was arrested in May last year (2017), and charged with Arson 1st Degree in connection with a house fire on King Street.  She was later acquitted of that charge.

No apparent motive has been stated for this latest incident.
