Civitan Club Assisting Several Local Agencies

The Cherokee County Civitan Club has chosen to assist several deserving agencies with their projects.

During their regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening, President Bob Pickerel presented a check in the amount of $2,500 to the Cherokee County Parks and Recreation Board to assist with the construction of the Observation Deck at Cherokee Rock Village Park. The New Deck will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, which will allow many with limited mobility the opportunity to enjoy scenic views which they may not have available until now at the Park. Park Board Chairman, Leann Hill and Treasurer for the Park Board, Jerry Baker were present to accept the generous donation. Hill told the Club members the Observation Deck would be open to the Public in October and invited all to attend the special opening event to be announced.

The Civitan Club also presented checks to Kathy Marko for the Cherokee County Museum and Mary Davis of the Cherokee County Child Development Center in Cedar Bluff.

The Club had already partnered with the Town of Leesburg to place handicapped accessible swings in the Town’s Park. The Civitans are paying for the purchase of the swing at a cost of $2,500 and the Town is doing the installation and will soon be ready for the Public to enjoy. Mayor Brandy Pierce and the Town Council approved the action during the August meeting. The Mayor said he hoped to have them installed for the Leesburg Day Celebration on September 8th.

The Cherokee County Civitan Club meets each 3rd Tuesday at 6PM at Pat’s Perfection Restaurant on the east 411 Bypass in Centre. They are active throughout the county and invite persons to the join them in helping meet the needs of Cherokee County as it grows.
