One Dead, One Wounded in Bizarre Weekend Shooting in Pleasant Valley Community of Calhoun County

The investigation continues into a bizarre shooting incident occurring over the weekend in the Pleasant Valley community of Calhoun County.

According to Sheriff Matthew Wade, Franklin Keith Boozer was waiting at a man’s home on Friday night and when the victim arrived, Boozer ambushed him, firing rounds from an AR-15 while the man was still in his truck.  The man ran from the truck to his barn – reportedly being hit four times in the process.  Once in the barn, he retrieved a shotgun and returned fire, striking Boozer.

At that point – Boozer jumped in the man’s truck and fled the scene.

Deputies attended to the victim helping to control the bleeding until medics arrived; he was then transported to UAB Hospital, where he was later listed in stable condition. Deputies later found Boozer on the railroad tracks on Reeds Mill Road where they provided assistance until EMS units could arrive.  Boozer was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival during the early morning hours of Saturday.

No motive has yet been given regarding the shooting.
