Centre Police Department Issues Statement Regarding School Zone Traffic At Centre Elementary School

There has been quite a bit of confusion and a number of complaints regarding school zone traffic at Centre Elementary School over the last several days.

On Tuesday, the Centre Police Department issued a statement regarding the situation.

According to the Police Department; if you are bringing your child to school from Highway 9 DO NOT turn left, go straight through on the green light and then get in line.

If you are coming from Highway 411 from Centre Middle School turn right on Armory Road and get in line.

If you stop under the intersection of Highway 411 and Highway 9 and block oncoming traffic you will be issued a citation. Of course, DO NOT speed through the school zone or you will be issued a ticket as well.

There has been some questions as to why buses are not using the bus loop near the gym and lunchroom, reportedly this is because of the construction of the new facility in that area.

We spoke with Corporal Matt Peek on Tuesday afternoon and he simply encourages everyone to allow yourself some extra time when you are dropping off or picking up your children at Centre Elementary School.

The Centre PD says that they want to ensure all children are safe. Officers will be closely monitoring the school zone to ensure that all traffic laws are being followed.
