Anniston Man Charged with Killing 22 Year Old Attalla Woman

A 23 year old Anniston man has been charged with Murder for his involvement in the death of a 22 year old Etowah County woman.  Khalil Devadra Smith also stands charged with one count of Attempt to Commit Murder and Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle.

Smith was apprehended in East Gadsden on a routine traffic stop by Gadsden Police Officer Colt Gregory shortly after that incident occurred on August the 8th.  Smith allegedly shot 22 year old Cheyenne Humphries of Attalla, and Brandon Gipson, age 30 of Anniston, and then fled the scene.

Gipson has since been released from the hospital; Humphries did not survive.

A 9-1-1 call was made at around midnight from a home on Clanton Street in Attalla, stating there was an altercation between two males and that shots had been fired.

Jacksonville State University’s Center for Applied Forensics assisted in gathering evidence; the Etowah County Department of Human Resources also responded to the scene.

Smith is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond.

The arrest was made based on probable cause, all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
