Leesburg Continue Plans For Leesburg Day

Plans were discussed during this week’s Town Council meeting to finalize the events for Leesburg Day set for September 8th in the Leesburg Town Park on highway 68. Mayor Pierce told the Council there are plans for Vendors with many on the agenda to be there. There will be plenty of inflatables for the children to enjoy and Ms Leesburg will be crowned, live music much more. The application for Vendors will be on the WEIS Radio News site at weisradio.com later this week. The Council approved the Leesburg Day Marketing Proposal with WEIS Radio for $875.

Laurie Clemmons with Extended Family For Kids gave the Council an update on the progress the program has made during recent years. The Council approved the Program to be included in the budget for the next fiscal year beginning October 1.

The Council approved the purchase of another street on highway 68 at the Dollar General location. That area has been determined to be unsafe due to lack of light at night.

The Town will be installing two new swings in the Town Park which will be handicap accessible. The Town is partnering with the Cherokee County Civitan Club which will reimburse the Town for the Cost of the swing and the Town will take care of the installation. The Council also asked Mayor Pierce to draft specifications for restrooms to be constructed in the Town Park, advertise the project for bids and open bids at the next Council meeting.

The Leesburg Fire Hall will be getting a new tile floor. The Town will be paying for the material needed and two firemen have volunteered the labor to install the new floor.

The council discussed the camping situation on the left side of Riverside Street and how to manage it properly.

The next Leesburg Town Council meeting will be on Tuesday, September 4th, due to the Labor Day Holiday falling on the regular Council meeting date.
