According to a news release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Ft Payne resident Denise Santiago was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash early Wednesday. The accident report stated that the collision took place at around 4:30am on Alabama 71, in Jackson County approximately two miles from the Alabama/Georgia state line.
Santiago was driving a 2008 Pontiac that crashed into a pickup, causing both the driver and a passenger in that vehicle to be taken to an area hospital for treatment; Santiago died at the scene.
The investigation into the matter is on-going.
