Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers And Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton Visit WEIS Radio To Discuss Summer Safety

Summer time on Weiss Lake is a time when just about everyone heads for the boat, lake, poolside, or their favorite recreation spot to enjoy swimming, a good barbeque and fellowship with family and friends.

As you enjoy your ‘fun in the sun’ this summer remember to do while exercising caution and making sure you and your family stay as safe as possible during the extreme hot conditions.

Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers and Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton joined WEIS Radio Morning Show Host Jerry Baker on Tuesday morning to discuss a number of different safety tips to help you avoid becoming a victim of an avoidable accident this summer.

Among the topics touched on was the extreme heat, too often individuals fail to take the hot conditions serious which unfortunately can lead to tragedy. Director Rogers explains that prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity can lead to heat exhaustion which can cause a heat stroke.

Dr. Deaton said that over the last several weeks there have also been a number of 911 calls from good Samaritans making reports of individuals leaving their animals and in some cases their children in cars, a decision that Deaton said is simply not a good idea for any length of time.

Other topics discussed included the safe and mishandling of fireworks, swimming safety tips and water & boating hazards.
