Names of Those Involved in Fatal Accident on County Road 99 Released

Two Cherokee County residents were fatally injured in a two-car collision on County Road 99 Wednesday evening.

That accident took place at 6:25 approximately a mile from the Alabama/Georgia state line, and involved a 2004 Ford driven by 18 year old Ragen Hughes of Gaylesville and a 2015 Kia driven by 69 year old Elizabeth Lingerfelt Stalker, also of Gaylesville. 

Hughes was transported to an area hospital for treatment.  Both Elizabeth Stalker, and the passenger in her vehicle, her son – 43 year old Carson James Stalker, Jr. were both pronounced dead at the scene by Cherokee County Coroner Dr Jeremy Deaton. The Broomtown Fire Department, Cherokee EMS, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Rescue Squad personnel, Coroner’s Office personnel and State Troopers all responded to the scene.

The cause of that accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
