An Alabama State Trooper was seriously injured while working in a construction zone on I-59 near 22nd Street in Birmingham on Wednesday.
The trooper suffered injuries described as “serious, but not life-threatening” after his patrol vehicle, which was parked in the inside lane with the emergency lights on, was struck from behind by two cars around 10:45 that night.
According to Corporal Steve Smith, the occupants of those other two vehicles were injured, but no additional information regarding their condition is currently available.
The name of the injured trooper has not been released.
Officials suspect one of the drivers who struck that trooper’s vehicle may have been driving under the influence. The investigation into the matter is on-going.
