Centre Middle School 7th Grader Dies in His Sleep / Funeral Arrangements Announced

A seventh grade student at Centre Middle School passed away Tuesday morning (April 3rd, 2018). 

David Elijah “Eli” Sauls was found unresponsive in his home in Centre and pronounced dead by Coroner Jeremy Deaton. His body has been sent to UAB in Birmingham for a postmortem examination. Dr. Deaton believes no foul play is involved and the cause of death is under investigation by his office.

David Elijah “Eli” Sauls, age 13 of Centre, passed away Tuesday, April 3rd at his residence.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, April 7th at Perry Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Hugh Copeland and Rev. Sam Copeland officiating; burial will follow in the Moseley cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Friday, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers include Ryan Sauls, Ricky Akridge, Brandon Hall, Michael Hall, Kevin Akridge, Jesse Brooks.

Survivors include his parents, Danny and Jessica Pendergrass Brooks of Centre; brothers, Ryan Sauls of Centre, Jessie James Brooks of Centre, Scott Shrader of Pisgah, Austin Brooks of Hickory, NC; sisters, Maggie Maria Cheyenne Smith of Menlo, GA, Ashley Eden of Summerville, GA, Cindy Crowe of Hickory, NC; grandparents, David and Anita Pendergrass of Lyerly, GA, Velma Brooks of Mentone, Jackie and Larry Lanham of Summerville, GA; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews.

Eli was born in Dekalb County on April 15, 2004. He was a 7th grade student at Centre Middle School and was of the Baptist faith.
