Mr. William “Bill” Devoe Watson

Mr. William “Bill” Devoe Watson, 86, passed away Thursday February 22nd at his residence.

Funeral services will 1 PM CST Saturday February 24th at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Melvyn Salter officiating burial will follow in Hebron Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 1 PM CST at the funeral home.

Pallbearers include T.K. Keith, John Collins, Jack Collins, Randal Blevins, David Watson, Darryl Storey, Ken Dusky and Dub Watwood.

Survivors include wife of 66 years, Sadie Simpson Watson of Cedar Bluff; sons, Mike (Kim) Watson of Rome, Ga. and Chris (Amanda) Watson of Cedar Bluff; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and six sisters.

Mr. Watson was a native of Cave Spring, Ga. and the son of the late William Devoe and Emma Kennedy Watson and was of the Baptist Faith.

Bill was born on September 5, 1931 in Cave Spring, Georgia to Emma and Devoe Watson. He attended Boys High School in Rome, Georgia until 1948. He married his 4th grade sweetheart in 1952. He worked as a truck driver and welder at Kraft for 35 years. He was a Mason and was the Boosters Club President at West Rome High School for 4 years. He started the Boosters Club in Cedar Bluff in the mid-80’s. Bill loved his family and their friends and enjoyed playing with all of them. He taught his friends and family to water ski in Lake Altoona and Lake Weiss. Bill was known to ski on anything including a boat paddle and a kite. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and fast cars.
