Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Five in Felony Drug and Criminal Investigations Tuesday

Cherokee County Investigators arrested a total of five people in unrelated felony drug and criminal investigations on Tuesday (February 6th), including a Centre man for Distribution, and an Ohio man for Drug Trafficking. 

Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested 31 year old Johnathan Ray Butler of Centre on seven counts of Unlawful Distribution of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and multiple counts of Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Butler had been on the run and was taken into custody at a camper in the Ferrell Community around 3:00pm.  Janice Lowe, 61, also of Centre, was arrested at the same residence on charges of Hindering Prosecution.

A man from Ohio was arrested for Drug Trafficking on U.S. 411 by Investigators Stepps and Monroy, with help from Sheriff’s Office K-9 Keelo.  Investigators seized a significant amount of methamphetamine and then took Kevin Johnson, age 40 from Columbus, to the Cherokee County Detention Center. 

Tracy Maxwell, age 61, Centre, was arrested on a Parole Violation warrant and for Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Paraphernalia. Maxwell had been arrested the previous Friday for Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance. 

As part of the recent Operation Vigilant Star initiative Investigator Brian Gilliland placed 34 year old James Clay of Gaylesville under arrest for a SORNA violation on Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies transported all of the suspects to the Cherokee County Detention Center.
