Nasdaq hits new record as Netflix soars

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Netflix and the Nasdaq composite led U.S. stocks higher on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was flat, sliding 3.79 (-0.01 percent), and finishing the session at 26,210.81.

The Nasdaq climbed 52.26 (+0.71 percent) to close at 7,460.29, while the S&P 500 finished trading at 2,839.13, up 6.16 (+0.22 percent) for the day. Both indexes hit new records.

Crude oil prices were nearly 2 percent higher and over $64 per barrel.

Winners and Losers:  Netflix led the Nasdaq with gains, soaring 9.98 percent, after announcing a surge in subscribers worldwide.

Shares of Procter & Gamble (-3.07 percent) and Johnson & Johnson (-4.26 percent) tumbled despite the consumer goods companies beating investors’ expectations in quarterly earnings reports.
