Three Floyd County Jail Inmates Facing Extra Charges After Attack on Another Inmate

Three inmates at the Floyd County Jail, Dylan Lee Newberry, 19 of Rome, Jesse Lee Hartley, 32 of Rome and Brandon Kyle Bettis, age 27 of Hixson, Tennessee are now facing additional charges after authorities said they started a riot when they attacked another inmate last Thursday.

Reports said the three inmates went into the cell of the victim and closed the door, and that a short time later everyone exited the room except the victim.

Deputies reportedly later found the other inmate blooded and bruised suffering numerous lacerations as well as head wounds.

According to Floyd County Jail records, the three attackers struck the other inmate multiple times with the intent to kill or cause serious bodily injury ultimately causing severe injuries to the head, requiring emergency brain surgery, depriving him of the use of the right side of his body.

Newberry, Hartley and Bettis are charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and causing a riot in a penal institution.

Newberry has been housed at the jail since September 3rd on the charges of abandonment of dangerous drugs and the possession of meth.  Hartley was arrested December 19th and placed on hold for the Department of Corrections (DOC), meanwhile Bettis has been housed at the jail since October 16th when he was arrested for possession of meth, possession with intent to distribute and battery.
