Dr. Jeremy Deaton Will Qualify January 8th with the Republican Party to Seek the Office of Cherokee County Coroner for a Second Term

Gaylesville resident, Cherokee County native, and current Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton has announced that he will qualify January 8th with the Republican Party to seek the office of Cherokee County Coroner for a second term. Deaton, a Republican candidate, will be on the ballot for the June 4th Republican Primary.

Deaton is an associate veterinarian at Nichols Animal Hospital as well as the owner of Deaton Veterinary Services, LLC, a mobile veterinary service, and serves as a Collaborating Instructor with Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Deaton is a graduate of Coosa High School and Auburn University, graduating Cum Laude from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013.

He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Alabama Veterinary Medical Association, and a member of the International Association of Coroner’s and Medical Examiners.

While serving as Coroner, Deaton has led a major overhaul of the County’s Coroner’s Office. The office is now in the process of becoming federally accredited, is implementing state of the art technology, and is working with the County Commission, Cherokee Medical Center, and the Health Care Authority to create a fully functional morgue with autopsy capabilities right here in Cherokee County.

Deaton is married to Hannah Tant Deaton, who teaches at Cedar Bluff School and together they have a daughter, Ruby Joyce Deaton.

They are both members of First Baptist Church Centre, as well as the pastor at Pineknot Community Church in Pine Knot, Kentucky.

“If re-elected to the Office of Cherokee County Coroner, I will strive to serve the citizens of Cherokee County with integrity and honor. Over the past term, I have had the privilege to be apart of over 300 cases so far. You the citizens of the county, have allowed me and my family to cry alongside you, laugh as we remember the funny stories of your loved ones, and search diligently to seek the answers that you desire. And when re-elected, we will continue to minister and serve you should we be called upon”

“Being Coroner is certainly not a job for our family, as the current salary averages to $.06 an hour, we consider it a calling. It is not just myself, but my wife and daughter both support me 100% in physical, emotional, and spiritual support every time a call comes in. Having to be gone over 100 different times a year can be tough on our family, but we believe in being a part of this county and this is one of the ways we can give back.”
