JaysonPhotography/iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — A day of gains on Wall Street couldn’t quite bring the major indices to record finishes.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 55.64 on the day, finishing the session at 24,782.29.

The Nasdaq edged up to a close of 6,965.36, 4.4 higher than it opened, while the S&P 500 finished trading at 2,684.57, a gain of 5.32 for the day.

As trading wrapped up Thursday, a barrel of crude oil was selling for $58.21, about 12 cents higher than at the market’s open.

Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer saw its stock rise after it confirmed talks with Boeing about a possible deal. Boeing is reportedly willing to buy the company to gain a larger footprint in the regional jet industry. Rival Airbus is aiming to do the same with plans to purchase a majority stake in Canada’s Bombardier.

Facebook and record label Universal Music Group reached an agreement that would allow the social media site’s users to share videos with the label’s music in them.
