17th Annual Rock Run Christmas Parade Draws 174 Entries

The Rock Run Christmas Parade 2017 was another huge success with some 174 participants; residents came with their go-carts, their four wheelers, their tractors, horses and other modes of transportation.

This was the 17th year for the annual late in the season Christmas event which begins at Rock Run Baptist Church and proceeds down Cherokee County Road 29.

Following a brief opening ceremony at the church, the fun began as Rock Run Honorary Mayor Fred Jennings led things off as Grand Marshal.

The event drew Shriner’s groups, church groups, school groups and more. Grady Rhinehart, one of the founders of the parade, said the event began as a brainstorm in the church fellowship hall when residents of the community discussed why they had never held a parade before. Following the discussion, they organized the event in approximately two weeks.

Although they do not charge for entries, the parade, Rhinehart said, generates funds through donations. Rhinehart said the parade has enabled them to supply needs of the community, including a flagpole.

On behalf of himself and the other parade organizers, Rhinehart expressed his appreciation to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and all Cherokee County Volunteer Fire Departments for assisting with traffic control and other duties.

A special thank you to each and everyone that submitted you pictures for us to use!
