Fall Commencement Ceremony for GSCC Set for Tuesday, December 19th at Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center

The Fall Commencement Ceremony for Gadsden State Community College will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center.

Featured speakers will be Gadsden State students Tracey Mulkey, Dorothy Dusendschon and Esther Adewuyi.

Mulkey first earned college credentials in 1988 from Ayers State Technical College, now Gadsden State’s Ayers Campus. She earned a degree in cosmetology and worked in the field for many years before returning to Gadsden State. After maintaining a 3.0 GPA, Mulkey will receive her Associate of Science in General Studies and plans to enroll in nursing school.

Dusendschon, a graduate of Gadsden City High School, previously earned an Associate of Science in General Studies with a concentration in music from Gadsden State. She will receive an Associate of Applied Science in Realtime Reporting at the commencement ceremony. Dusendschon has been honored with the Outstanding Music Student and Outstanding Choir Student awards. She has been involved in Phi Theta Kappa and the Gadsden State Show Choir, and she is a member of the Alabama Court Reporters Association and the National Court Reporters Association. Dusendschon has maintained a 3.3 GPA and has received a number of scholarships.

Adewuyi of Iludun-Oro, Kwara, Nigeria, is graduating from Gadsden State with an A.S. degree in Business Administration.  She has served as an assistant at the college’s residence hall and as a tutor for Student Support Services. She plans to continue her education at a four-year university before returning to her home country. She has maintained a perfect 4.0 at Gadsden State.

Graduates will be presented by Dr. Deborah Curry, dean of health sciences, and Tim Green, dean of technical education and workforce development. Dr. Martha Lavender, president of Gadsden State, will award the degrees. The Gadsden State A Capella Choir will perform. Leah Elkins, a realtime reporting instructor, will serve as the Commencement Grand Marshal.
