During the regular meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council on Monday the council and Mayor accepted a resignation letter from District #1 Council member Lorrie Green. Mayor Tammy Crane explained that Green has moved from the state and is no longer eligible to serve. With the seat officially being vacated, a special called meeting has been called for today (Tuesday November, 14) at 3:30 to appoint someone to fill the seat.

“I regret to inform you that I must resign my position of Council Member of the Cedar Bluff Town Council. I will be able to serve you until the end of the Fiscal year or until a replacement Council Member is found, The reason behind my resignation is for the past 4 weeks we were living part time in Cedar Bluff, AL and Part time in Rocky Face, GA. While we own a house in both states, and our primary address is Cedar Bluff, Al, I feel it is in the best interest of the Town of Cedar Bluff to be served by a full time Council Member, so I must step down and let our beloved town be represented at full capacity. The position I’ve held as Council Member for the past year has taught me more than I could have hoped. I would like to say Thank You to the citizens who voted me into office, to the Council Members whom I served next to, and the entire Town of Cedar Bluff, which has given me the insight to become a stronger leader. I look forward to see The Town of Cedar Bluff continue to progress in the years to come. God Bless the Town of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, and the Citizens who work together everyday to make it a blessing to live here.”

The council also approved minutes from the previous meetings and approved the financial statements for the month in addition to receiving monthly reports from Fire Chief Stewart Jason Stewart and Police Chief Steve Walden.

Councilman Jerry Sprayberry made a motion to have necessary repairs made to the departments Engine #62 with Sunbelt Fire preforming the work, that motion passed unanimously.

The council also approved a membership application for Kody Goss for the Fire Department.

In other business, Bob Pickerel with the Weiss Lake Improvement Association addressed the council about an upcoming cleanup campaign in April. Alabama Power, Alabama PALS, Renew Our Rivers and local schools and municipalities in a major cleanup project across the county including Cedar Bluff, Weiss Lake Improvement is simply requesting that Cedar Bluff participate in planning assistance with the project, Mayor Tammy Crane said the town would be more than glad to participate in the campaign.

Gaylesville resident Kathy Mobbs also addressed the council concerning issues with signs in the school zone at Cedar Bluff School. Mobbs respectfully asked that the council consider taking the necessary steps to make sure that the zone is properly signed and in compliance.

Following some brief discussion, the council also approved the budget for the upcoming fiscal year which included a fifty cent per hour pay increase for town employees.

The council then went into an Executive Session for the purpose of discussing the ‘Good Name and Character’ of an individual. No action was taken on the matter.
