Magnitude 6.5 earthquake hits Pacific coast of Costa Rica, USGS says

USGS(SAN JOSE) — A 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Costa Rica on Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The earthquake struck at 8:28 p.m. local time about 10 miles southeast of Jaco, a city on the Pacific Coast in the Puntarenas province, the USGS said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported there was no tsunami threat.

There was no immediate word on injuries or damage.
