The roommate of the Berry College student who was shot and killed October 28th has been arrested on a felony charge of tampering with evidence. He is also charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug-related objects.
According to the arrest warrant, 22-year old Andrew David Horton of Savannah removed items of evidence from the apartment on Summer Stone Drive following the shooting death of 19-year old Joseph McDaniel. During an interview with police, Horton admitted to hiding marijuana, a smoking device and a butane torch in another apartment. Horton could be seen on the apartment complex’s video surveillance making multiple trips before calling 9-1-1 after the shooting.
The warrant stated that Horton did not want investigators to view him or his roommate in a negative way.
This is the third arrest associated with the investigation. Ricket Damon Carter III, age 19 of Columbus, and Troy Jamal Cokley of Riverdale, also 19, both stand charged with murder.
Reports indicate that Carter and Cokely took marijuana from the victim. They are both also charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a controlled substance.
