Capsized Boat Pulled In at the Boat Docks Between Centre and Cedar Bluff Tuesday Morning / UPDATED

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Cherokee EMS and the Cherokee County Rescue Squad responded to the boat docks on the causeway between Centre and Cedar Bluff just before 8:00 Tuesday morning, following a report of what was at first believed to be a vehicle in the water.

It turned out to a capsized boat that still had an outboard motor attached.

It was soon pulled in to the docks and flipped right side up.  At that point, the sheriff’s office began running the registration numbers in an attempt to locate the owner of the boat while waters around the area were being scanned in search of any fishermen that may have fallen out of the craft.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Chief Investigator Josh Summerford informed WEIS Radio  that the it was quickly determined the boat had been stolen from a storage building and the owner was on his way to identify the boat.

It appears the boat was stolen out of Centre so the case will be turned over to the Centre PD – we’ll have additional information as it becomes available.
