Accident Report Now Released on Fatal Highway 9 Crash

The accident report regarding a fatal two-vehicle crash taking place Monday morning on Highway 9 in Cedar Bluff, has now been released by the Cedar Bluff Police Department.

According to the report, at approximately 11:30 a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by 82 year old Carlton Thomas Bishop of Cedar Bluff was traveling northbound, when that vehicle collided with a 2000-model Nissan Frontier, driven by 54 year old Daniel Neal Young Brackett, from Rome, Georgia – who was traveling southbound on Highway 9.  Upon impact the Frontier caught fire under the hood; fortunately the driver managed to get out safely.

A passenger in the Altima, 80 year old Annie Pearl Bishop of Cedar Bluff – who was the wife of the driver – was pronounced dead at the scene.  Carlton Bishop was initially transported by Cherokee EMS ground units to Cherokee Medical Center, and from there was air-lifted to an area trauma center.  According to the report, the second driver, Brackett, did not appear to be injured however he stated that he would go to the hospital for evaluation after he was released from the scene.

Alabama Highway 9 North, from Old Highway 9 to Westbrook Street in front of H&L Motors was shut down for over two hours as homicide investigators worked to gather information.  Cedar Bluff Police and Firefighters, Cherokee EMS the Cherokee County Rescue Squad and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene.

The Cedar Bluff Police Department is heading up the investigation into the accident.
