Woman Struck And Killed By A Car On Glenn Blvd. In Fort Payne On Monday

A woman was struck and killed by a car on Glenn Boulevard near First Southern State Bank in Ft Payne Monday night. 

According to information in a news release from Ft Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum the mishap occurred at approximately 9:10 pm. A vehicle traveling north toward Rainsville, pulling a small utility trailer spilled some items on the roadway, as the vehicle turned around and the passenger, 40 year old Mary Delana Austin of Nebist, Mississippi got out of the vehicle to retrieve the items she was struck by another vehicle traveling toward Rainsville.

Austin was transported by DeKalb Ambulance Service to DeKalb Regional were she was then flown to Huntsville Hospital by Air Evac where she later died from her injuries.

A witness and the driver of the vehicle Austin was traveling in both stated the vehicle was sitting in the turn lane with the head lights on high beam. The witness stated the lights were blinding to oncoming traffic.

The investigation continues, but at this time it appears there will be no criminal charges filed as it was an unfortunate accident. Chief Bynum said he would like to thank the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department for assisting with traffic.
