Cherokee Rock Village Feeling After Effects of Drought

The Cherokee County Parks and Recreation Board continues to deal with the after effects of last year’s drought.  The severe lack of rainfall has left many dead trees throughout the four county parks.  The Park Board is currently taking bids on taking down a number of dead trees in the Ethel Morrison Park located across the street from the Cherokee County Public Library in Centre.  There are trees that will have to come down at Pratt Cemetery Park as well.

This past week Cherokee Rock Village Park Manager, Shannon Mackey said that the process of taking down dead trees there has already begun; this is for the safety of the park patrons.  Mackey stated that he would welcome Park Partners to bring their chainsaws out, and help cut up trees that have been taken down.  Those interested in scheduling a work day can call (256) 927-7275.  The Cherokee Park Board strives to protect all trees; however when one dies, it needs to be taken down for safety reasons.  This process will help the park open some additional camp sites to serve more visitors.

If you haven’t been to Cherokee Rock Village lately, the Parks & Recreation Board urges you to bring your family and see first-hand what you’ve been missing.
