During the regular meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Education Thursday evening, the Board approved the 2018 Fiscal Year budget totaling $40, 514, 715.18 in anticipated revenues and $43,655,548.47 in projected expenditures.

The total revenue is comprised of $25,178,685 in State Funds, $4,800,083.45 in Federal Funds, $10,293,515.73 in Local Funds, $242,431 in other funds. The expenditures includes $2,580,000 in capital outlay expenses which is allocated for roofing work at Cherokee County High, Cedar Bluff, Gaylesville, Spring Garden and the Career Tech Center. A portion of the $2.58 million for capital outlay was recaptured by the Board in the refinancing of debt. That amount is $1,315,000. The Board has $12,816,378 on hand to begin the Fiscal Year which includes $7.4 million reserve funds. The state requires the Board to maintain a minimum of one month operating expenses. The reserve amount is 2.65 months of operating expenses. The projected ending balance at the end of the fiscal year is $9,922,461. The Board employees 510 which includes 263 teachers, 7 librarians, 10 counselors, 21 administrators, 6 certified support personnel, and 202 non certified support personnel.

In other business the Board approved Gaylesville School to finance a John Deere Mower with Ag-Pro.

In personnel actions the Board approved Brooke Ledbetter as Centre Elementary Teacher effective October 2, 2017.  Maurice Dupree approved In-School Suspension /Instructional Paraprofessional at Cherokee County High, effective September 7, 2017. Linda Weaver was approved as CNP Worker For Supper Program at Gaylesville School effective September 7, 2017.

The following supplements were approved: Jennifer Webb and Kaycee Mize each to receive $275 for the Cedar Bluff Football Pregame Meal to be funded by the Cedar Bluff Football Program.

In Job Postings, the Board Approved the position of a Welding Instructor for the Career and Tech Center.
