International Olympic Committee officially awards 2024, 2028 Olympic Games to Paris, Los Angeles

(Photo by Buda Mendes/Getty Images)(NEW YORK) — The International Olympic Committee officially awarded the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games to Paris and Los Angeles, respectively, on Wednesday — marking the first time two Olympics have been granted at once.

The two cities had been waiting for a vote that officially ratified the pre-determined conclusion. Both cities originally were bidding for the 2024 games, but with all other bidders dropping out, the IOC needed to keep both involved.

Each city will be hosting their third Olympic Games, Paris on the 100th anniversary of its last Olympics.

Los Angeles’ 2028 Games will end a 32-year stretch without a U.S-hosted Summer Olympics.
