A “good time for a great cause” is an apt way to describe the special event coming up Friday at the Cherokee County Health & Rehab Activity Building in Centre.
It’s the BBQ Supper & Karaoke Fundraiser hosted by Billy Black – with all proceeds going to benefit the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s event. There will also be a Silent Auction. Things get underway at 6:00 that evening and admission is a minimum donation of just $5.00 – but of course, there’s no limit on how much you choose to give. Margaret Eubanks and Jan Carr with the Cherokee County Alzheimer’s/Dementia Caregivers Support Group recently paid a visit to the WEIS Radio studios to discuss that event:
This year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s event will once again take place at the Park in Weaver, Alabama – where last year our local group raised $4,000 winning the “Champion Achievers’ Award”, and that designation brought them into the Grand Champions Club.
The need for research is vital in the on-going battle against Alzheimer’s – with some strides already being made toward more effective treatment – however that research doesn’t come cheap and the need for funding is never-ending. Often, the plight of the caregiver is overlooked when it comes to Alzheimer’s – and the need to have someone to turn to, to know that you’re not alone – really means more than you can ever imagine if you’ve never been in a similar situation:
This year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place Saturday, September 30th. For additional information call (256) 927-4307. The Cherokee County Alzheimer’s/Dementia Caregivers Support Group meets quarterly, in the Health & Rehab Activity/Education Building, at 877 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre with the next meeting taking place October 19th at 6:00pm.
