Gaylesville’s Cole Murphy Shines in Birmingham-Southern Victory

GAYLESVILLE’S COLE MURPHY SHINES IN BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN VICTORY

Cole Murphy #22 vs. LaGrange (Ga.) College

Senior quarterback Kerrigan Pennington found Buddy Dowd on a 28-yard touchdown pass with one minute left that handed Birmingham-Southern football the 29-25 win over LaGrange College Saturday afternoon.  BSC (1-0) needed only 1:30 to march down the field to victory in the fourth quarter.  Defensively, Cole Murphy led the team in tackles with 11.   As a junior the 5’11”, 190 lb. linebacker led the team with 64 total tackles including a 44 solo stops. Those numbers garnered Murphy Southern Athletic Association All-Conference honorable mention accolades. He also earned the SAA Academic Honor Roll award in his sophomore and junior years.  This season the Panthers chose Murphy as one of their team Captains.  

Murphy played football for head coach Kyle Garmon at Gaylesville where he was a 2013 all-state selection.  Cole is the son of McConnell and DeAnna Murphy.   

BSC returns to Birmingham for its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 9.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. against Huntingdon College.  It will be the Panthers only night game of the season.   A video link of the game is available at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkuCRcM41p2khCfipwHdfhA
