Northwest Georgia Man Found Guilty of Child Molestation and Statutory Rape

According to court records a jury has found a LaFayette Georgia man guilty of having sexual intercourse with two underage Chattooga County females.

A jury deliberated around 40 minutes last Tuesday before declaring that 23-year-old Kevin Lee Hutchens was guilty of two counts of statutory rape, two counts of aggravated child molestation and four counts of child molestation, Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader said.

The sexual encounters occurred between May 2014 and April 2015. Hutchens confessed to molesting two victims, one 14-year old and the other 15-year old, according to Summerville Police Detective Brian Ozment.  The police department and sheriff’s department had separate cases against Hutchens and both were tried at the same time. Although two departments had charges, the cases moved quickly. A jury was selected on Monday and a verdict was reached by Tuesday.

“Basically we had DNA evidence in both cases and a confession on both cases,” Detective Ozment said.  The detective was not sure why Hutchens wanted a jury trial after confessing to the crimes.
