Mental and substance use disorders are prevalent in our community, and it’s imperative that individuals in Cherokee County, Alabama understand how to seek help. It is estimated 7,000 people in Cherokee County, Al were affected by mental or substance abuse illness. In addition, a significant number of individuals will be affected by both a substance abuse illness and a mental illness co-occurring.

To address this significant problem, the Cherokee County Commission will issue a proclamation for National Recovery Month this September, raising awareness about prevention, treatment, and recovery support services in the area.  

After the signing of the proclamation, attendees and all citizens of Cherokee County, Alabama are encouraged to join a recovery event around the community to highlight the significance of helping people in need of prevention, treatment, and recovery support services, while also celebrating the accomplishments of individuals in recovery.

That proclamation will be presented at the Cherokee County Commission Chambers on Monday, August 28th at 5:00 p.m.
