Falcons, running back Freeman agree to extension

Phil Ellsworth/ESPIN Images(NEW YORK) — The Atlanta Falcons and running back Devonte Freeman have agreed to a five year contract extension worth $41.25 million and includes a $15 million dollar signing bonus, ESPN reports.

Freeman, a two time pro bowler, will be the highest paid running back in the NFL with a multi-year deal, according to ESPN.

The 2014 fourth round pick out of Florida State was going into the final year of his rookie contract and was scheduled to make almost $1.8 million.

Freeman has gained 3,175 yards from scrimmage and 27 touchdowns over the past two seasons, ESPN reports.

Atlanta starts off the regular season on the road against Chicago on September 10th.
