The Summer Commencement Ceremony for Gadsden State Community College will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 at Word Alive International Outreach in Anniston.
Featured speakers will be Gadsden State students Summer Duley, Jessica Jarman and Christopher Parrish.
Duley is a graduate of Ashville High School. At the commencement ceremony, she will receive her Associate in Science. She plans to transfer to Auburn University, where she will study chemical engineering. Duley is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and has served as a tutor for Gadsden State’s Student Support Services and the Cardinal Writing Center. She received the Outstanding Chemistry Student and Outstanding Math/Pre-engineering Student Awards. With a 4.0 GPA, Duley was also a nominee for the President’s Cup and the prestigious Allen-Ray Award.
Jarmen is a native of Richmond, Va., and a graduate of Cleveland High School in Cleveland, Tenn. Following graduation from Gadsden State, she will work as a licensed practical nurse. Jarmen hopes to continue her education to become a registered nurse and eventually a nurse practitioner. She has a 3.2 GPA and was on the President’s List during her time as a
Gadsden State student.
Parrish is from Muscadine, Ala., and completed his GED in 2004. After working for many years in the automotive service industry, he decided to change careers and enrolled in Gadsden State’s welding program. At graduation, he will receive his welding certification, which he earned at the Ayers Campus, and he will go directly into the workforce as a welder. A volunteer at the Center of Concern and Second Chance for Battered Women, Parrish has maintained a 3.9 GPA.
Graduates will be presented by Tim Green, dean of technical education and workforce development, and Dr. Teresa Rhea, dean of enrollment and retention. Dr. Martha Lavender, president of Gadsden State, will award the degrees. Rhonda Brown Robinson and Jacob Callahan will perform. Glenda Copeland, an office administration instructor, will serve as the Commencement Grand Marshal.
