Former Resident of Centre Fatally Injured in Sunday Afternoon Accident / UPDATED

The man fatally injured in a single vehicle rollover occurring over the weekend in Cherokee County has been identified as a 25 year old McDonough, Georgia resident.  According to Coroner Jeremy Deaton, Robert Chad Vancoillie formerly of Centre apparently lost control of his vehicle around 4:30 Sunday afternoon while traveling southbound on the Piedmont Highway near Cherokee Memory Gardens; an eyewitness behind the car said that he observed the vehicle driving erratically and called 9-1-1 just before the wreck occurred.  Vancoillie was partially ejected from the vehicle, and he had to be extricated by members of the Cherokee County Rescue Squad.  He was wearing his seatbelt.

Also responding to the scene were the Centre Police and Fire Departments, Cherokee EMS, Chief Deputy Coroner Paul McDonald and the Centre Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Investigator.

The cause of that accident remains under investigation.
