Historic Fairview School in Northwest Georgia to Receive Grant Funds

The City of Rome is one of seven municipalities which have been selected to receive federal sub-grants to support historic preservation activities.

Rome is receiving $23,000 for the stabilization of the Fairview School.  The 2017 Historic Preservation Fund grants are provided each year by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Park Service and are administered by the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

In June, Fairview School was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The circa 1924 school building is one of the few remaining schools built to provide an education to African-American children in Georgia.  The Fairview and E.S. Brown Heritage Corporation has been working to restore property located on Padlock Mountain Road in Cave Spring.
