Stockbyte/Thinkstock(CARACAS, Venezuela) — Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is raising salaries as he attempts to overcome major protests in his country.
On his Sunday television show, Maduro announced the minimum wage will increase 50 percent starting in July. This means workers will earn at least 250,000 bolivars every month.
The past three months have seen major protests seeking Maduro’s removal, especially after the Venezuelan leader called for a special election to choose delegates that would rewrite the constitution. At least 80 people have died in those protests.
