Cherokee County’s “So-Cool Summer Program for Kids” offers children a variety of exciting, educational, and just plain fun things to do while out of school, and each year they present a special Patriotic Program as Independence Day approaches. Following this year’s event we sat down with coordinator’s Nancy Steed and Theresa Hulgan to discuss the impact that the So-Cool Program has had on the community:
Over the years, on a number of occasions the “So-Cool Program” has served as the blueprint for similar initiatives in surrounding areas interested in reaching out to the community and offering the children an array of activities to choose from – including basketball, volleyball, swimming, dodgeball and more along with arts and crafts, music and drama, skating, putt-putt golf, field trips, Vacation Bible School – and the list goes on and on.
This year’s Patriotic Program featured a slideshow commemorating the So-Cool Summer of 2017, which was prepared by Luke Sewell; and an outstanding performance by ten year old Vivian Connell, singing the National Anthem:
The So-Cool Program runs for five weeks each summer and is absolutely FREE of charge.
