Freedom Charity Run Team Visits Cherokee County

A group of individuals who’ve dedicated themselves to raising money to help those in need literally around the world were in Cherokee County recently – Lions Club District Governor Ann Shumaker tells us more:

The primary goal for this particular run is to help construct schools for these children.  This group has been involved in a dozen or so charity runs, across Europe and in Japan – helping to raise money for a variety of great causes.  During the visit to Cherokee County, the group placed wreaths at Centre City Hall and at the War Memorial at the Courthouse in Centre.

Following the ceremonies we spoke briefly with Mayor Tony Wilkie and Probate Judge Kirk Day:

The run will begin in Tuscumbia and cover more than 625 miles, winding up in Chicago and you can follow their progress all the way on the website www.freedomcharityrun.org – that site contains a map of the route and will contain daily updates on their progress.

Among those in attendance at the ceremony in front of the courthouse on Monday morning, were Mayor Wilkie and Judge Day; Centre Lion’s Club President Diane Hardy; previous Lion presidents Jeff Wolff and Norbert Falk, Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver and Investigator Josh Summerford, Representative Richard Lindsey and Assistant District Attorney Scott Lloyd among others.  Donations may be given locally to the Centre Lion’s Club, with those checks made out to the Freedom Charity Run.  Simply call (256) 706-9921 for more information.  The Centre Lion’s Club meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 12:00 noon at Lannys Restaurant in Centre.
